Ninety-Two Centimetres

The jar is coiled from clay cut out of the river bank up the road, paddled to a high shoulder that sits about two centimetres off true, and left unglazed inside. Ash green has thinned over rutile straw down the belly, iron slip has pooled liver brown inside the throat lip, and the foot is bare pumice grey with grit standing out of it. One needle-thin line, incised once round the shoulder, wavers and closes a finger's width above where it started.
