MF-005

Stage 4.12
Bolaji Fagbemi · 2021
Fifty-eight hand-drawn horizontal bands step down the cloth from a two-dip sky at the rod to a fourteen-dip blue that reads black where the nap turns away from the light. One band 62 cm above the hem is the widest and the darkest in the panel; the cassava paste cracked as it dried on it, and the dye has entered the cracks as white hairline veining. Eleven woven strips are stitched vertically, so every seam breaks each band and carries it 1 to 3 mm out of true.
Condition note
Follow one seam from top to hem and count how often the bands fail to meet — the offsets are the loom, not the drawing.
