Nine Metres by Onésime Larivière

Nine Metres

Onésime Larivière · 2015

The shards are 8 to 20 mm, cut from crazed porcelain bells and aquamarine insulator glass, their curved backs ground flat on a diamond wheel before being laid face-down in wheat paste and mortared from behind. Aquamarine courses run level across the top third and thin downward as white Carrara and its grey veining take over, until the last 300 mm turn to rust brown, amber and mortar grey set in shorter courses. One line of black basalt runs plumb from the top edge and stops 40 mm above the bottom.

Condition note

The basalt plumb line breaks twice where a shard was cut short, and both gaps are filled with the same grey grout as everywhere else.
